Whether as in a recent work "Captain Cook The Opera" which is based on the true peculiar facts of history, or the adventures of Little Bull and Dog, a fiction with elements of true experience and myth blended, story telling is core to his work. A student of mythology and symbolism, his painting and sculptural ceramic incorporates his extensive knowledge of ceramic history with a fascination with popular culture, both historic and current.

Louise Rive co-established EDGE CITY art studio in Westmere, Auckland, NZ, and also works in Mangere Bridge. Louise paints in-glaze ceramic on three dimensional sculpted forms, often wrapping the form in picture and pattern and paints in oil paint, recording events and times and has a particular interest in portrait painting. In both clay and paint Louise is an image diarist. Louise won the 2014 Portage Ceramic Awards Premier Award.
