WAICLAY 21/22 WAIKATO MUSEUM

Chuck Joseph at Waiclay 21/01/22. Waikato Museum Te Whare Taonga o Waikato to April 10th 2022

“Like Herding Cats ll” and “Out of the frying pan into the fire” are works in the Waiclay 22 National Ceramics Exhibition selected and judged by acclaimed Australian ceramicist Prue Venables and on at the Waikato Museum until April 10th. Like Herding Cats ll: In a world that wants to pull in so many directions I find the concept of the Norse Goddess Freya harnessing cats to pull her chariot very reassuring. It can be done. This piece speaks to female leadership and particularly our admirable PM Jacinda Ardern here in New Zealand Aotearoa. Out of the frying pan… : My cartoon amphora illustrates an artistic journey and combines traditional narrative decoration with the painterly convention of flowers in a vase, daisies in this instance symbolise innocence and hope.
